My Favorite Weekend
Family Time: Friday nights, I have a regular routine. My husband, Marshall Coben, works late so I have my sister, Katey; my nephew, Colin; and my brother-in-law, Rajan, over for dinner. Usually I’ll make chicken soup and crusty bread.
Making Waves: Saturday afternoons, I go down to Zuma Beach and watch my husband surf. I might take a video of him if the surf’s good. I didn’t used to be a beach person, but now I go almost every weekend. I don’t surf. Sometimes if it’s glassy (I’m picking up all this ocean lingo), I’ll take a kayak out and paddle around.
Apres Surf: If we are by the beach, we go to the Reel Inn for a pitcher of beer. Otherwise we go either to Pinot in the Valley or Les Deux Cafes in Hollywood. Then we might rent a laserdisc. I like romantic comedies and classics. My favorite movie is “Lawrence of Arabia.”
Sunday Brunch: Every Sunday, we go out for eggs Benedict to Bistro Garden or Hollywood Canteen. After brunch, well, my life revolves around the surfing conditions. If there’s a swell, it’s off to the beach again. If not, it’s to the Rose Bowl for the flea market. Our house is an ongoing effort, and we love to look for quirky things.
In the Kitchen: Sunday afternoons, I’ll bake an apple pie, make huge pots of soup or roast something so we don’t have to order in all week. I also bring soup to work sometimes for the cast.
X-Philes: Without fail, we religiously watch “The X-Files.” My husband and I are big fans. We start a fire, snuggle up and have martinis.
